Tonight's Top Gear was pretty car-centric, which was nice. Perhaps the most interesting thing about it was Jeremy going over all the strings attached with testing the LeFerrari (and to a lesser extent the McLaren). Basically Ferrari, begrudgingly, would only allow their car to be tested with a factory supplied car (read: ringer), while Mclaren will only allow their P1 to be tested against customer's cars (which Ferrari would never allow). Interestingly Porsche seems game for anything.

Just to clarify because I haven't watched it yet.

McLaren wouldn't let the P1 get tested against the ringer Ferrari? To me, that makes total sense. I can totally see McLaren not wanting to have a customer car not compete with the ringer Ferrari. The Ferrari probably would have a had a better change of beating the McLaren.

Maybe, McLaren saw an opportunity to get Ferrari called out on Top Gear about their review car bullshit and took it.

Weirdly McLaren doesn't want their car tested on the Top Gear track (which McLaren themselves use to develop their cars) because they think the tighter turns would favor awd (918). On the flip side Ferrari would test on the Top Gear track, but not any others. So apparently testing supercars is tricky business nowadays.

Mclaren wants all the cars to be customer cars, Porsche already gave them a car and Ferrari will only give them a ringer even going so far as to threaten any owner who gives them a car. Quite the feud we have here, I'm enjoying this for some reason.

I can see that. Mclaren looks like it would do very well at high speed corner tracks like Spa or Silverstone.

Kind of worrying that Mclaren had to demand that all 3 cars would be customer's cars. You would think that would be the standard but even now we still have this factory car bollocks.

Still two things strike me as weird.

Firstly Porsche sent out a tweet of themselves a while back at the track with the line: TeamJennifer so I assume the P1 and 918 have already been around.

Secondly according to the scheduling there was going to be a 30 min special between the 918 and P1 at the end of the series so has that been scraped since Ferrari have humoured the idea of letting their car go round.

Either way it all rests on Ferrari willing to let a customer car go round but honestly I have no interest if they just use a prepped cars.

They make the craziest most insane cars..and also they are complete pussies when it comes to comparing them - pretty much.

You forgot to mention mclaren will not let top gear test their car against porsche at their test track which mclaren themselves use as their test track. They're think they'll lose to the 918 a la hammerhead. And I honestly couldn't believe Clarkson went against ferrari and their bull shit. The only other person I know of to do this was Chris Harris. Balls

Edit: I see where you mentioned it in a reply, double balls.

With all the bitching and moaning from McLaren and Ferrari (especially Ferrari) about stipulations and trying to control the parameters to ensure they have an advantage from the start, I really want the Porsche to destroy them. They're the only one of the three to just go "sure, any time any place. We're game, let's do this."

Is it old news that the Ford Focus RS is getting 320HP? I just heard it on Top Gear, hand't read it elsewhere yet.

Not tricky for Porsche - they basically said "yeah let's go!". Kinda like how they're the only one of the three that's posted a time on the 'Ring...

Not really. It's worded a bit wrong in the article - Ferrari only allows tests of _their_ cars if they're factory, because they are set up and tuned to the location the test will be held. McLaren only allows testing against customer cars because... well, that's an untouched car. Here's an old article from Chris Harris explaining the issue: http://jalopnik.com/5760248/how-fe…
